In an interview at the Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital, Apple CEO Steve Jobs claimed that PCs will soon be mostly replaced by tablets. He compared PCs to trucks, which are still in use but for most people and most purposes replaced by cars. Jobs said that tablets such as the iPad, which utilizes a revolutionary user interface, are enough for most people and will take over from PCs for the general public.

Jobs’s previous predictions often turned out correct; indeed, his projections have helped him create the right products at the right time. I would be willing to bet that he’s right this time around; after all, I wrote about how the iPhone OS might replace OS X. In this future, however, I might be among those who hang on to their trucks.
